Damn near everyone has heard of the Kentucky Derby, it’s an annual tradition where some funky-ass horses have what’s considered the most exciting 2 minutes in sports. There’s a company called Brantley Security, and they let high school students work security for the Oaks & Derby races as a fundraiser for their schools. I did this several years ago & it was kinda fun.

When you work at Derby, you hope that you get to work somewhere cool like Millionaire Row so that you can meet celebrities & earn tips. I was never that lucky. The first year I went, I did meet Montel Williams. He looked tall on TV, but that shit was a lie. I was about 5’7” at the time, and we were looking eye to eye.

I didn’t meet any celebrities when I went the next year, but my dumb-ass classmate was convinced that he saw Kenyon Martin going into the the Infield. Kenyon Martin played for the Nets at that time, and that had a playoff game that night. I told my classmate that, but he was still convinced that it was him. Also, a celebrity wouldn’t be going into the the fucking Infield. Fake Kenyon was with a shorter white guy, and my dumb classmate kept saying, “I know who you are!” when they walked by. The were probably sandwich artists at Subway or something. He eventually asked for their autographs and the shorter white guy obliged. The autograph said, “Evan Bill #33 Boston Celtics”. My classmate was excited about this, despite the fact that there is no Evan Bill and #33 was retired by the Celtics years ago.

Some guy from ESPN asked us to watch his expensive-ass camera while he went to the bathroom. Dumb-ass classmate told him that he just met Kenyon Martin, and ESPN guy probably thought that he was retarded. Since we were guarding his stuff, we assumed that we would get a tip. We did get a tip, and it was some fuck-ass ESPN magnets. FUCKIN MAGNETS!. That was 8 years ago and I’m still a little salty about that.
